ISO 42001 (A.I. Systems)
Contact Us

ISO 42001 is one of the newest additions to the industry and we at ISO Pros have been receiving multiple requests for implementation and compliance. While most standards do not require more than a few steps and a plan based on the regulations established, ISO 42001 is a challenge for most companies nowadays.
Since it is focused on and dedicated to all artificial intelligence management systems and how people have been making use of AI as a tool, it brings changes to a whole new level.
First, it is important to establish certain limitations that are based on accountability and explainability. For instance, if your AI system is collecting data, organizing it, and even making decisions based on it, you have to make sure you are covering all areas and have an explanation for your clients or even employees of how these decisions are being made. This also applies to being held accountable for any type of decisions or results your company delivers, even when it was your AI system.
Second, having an AI system means you need to be responsible for it and build an entire framework that is based on ethical use. This is something most companies have ignored and implementing a level of responsibility into the AI management system can be tricky if there are changes and corrective actions needed.
Finally, it is all about fairness. While using AI can be useful and bring the best results for clients or employees, it is good to set up a limit on what it can and should be doing in your company.
Therefore, working on ISO 42001 implementation is not only about changing certain elements in your business but also about bringing a whole new concept to your AI management system.
Do All Companies Need ISO 42001?
Not all of them. if a company does not have an entire AI system or uses artificial intelligence as a tool and for some tasks, then there is no need for implementation.
ISO 42001 is aimed at limiting what companies do with AI, but also bring regulations about how much they can do with them and how they should be working with an ethical and responsible system. Therefore, those that do not have AI as a tool in at least one or two tasks or for automation won’t need the standard or any regulations.
Companies that don’t have an AI system yet, but are considering developing and implementing it, will need to follow ISO 42001 documentation. In fact, getting your AI management system developed while working with compliance will be simpler and smoother since instead of corrective actions, you can work on adapting the standard to your system. This saves times and resources in the process.
